From Bean to Brew: Reducing Carbon Emissions in the Coffee Supply Chain

Coffee is central to modern life, supporting the livelihoods of millions of farmers around the globe. Yet as climate change intensifies — potentially reducing suitable coffee-growing areas by up to 50% by 2050 — we must reduce the carbon footprint of this beloved beverage. 

This report examines the journey of a standard 12 oz cup of coffee from cultivation through consumption, highlighting the most significant sources of emissions and practical strategies for decarbonization. Throughout the report, we reference insights drawn from a combination of desk research, global partnerships, and on-the-ground learnings from major coffee producers.
